About

About MidCenturyModern.com

An online magazine about mid-century modern architecture, design and living, published in Palm Springs, California.

What this is

MidCenturyModern.com covers the houses, furniture, cars, music and food of the middle of the twentieth century, and the people who look after them now. We write about the well-known architects, and also about the tract houses, coffee shops and bowling alleys that were built for everyone else.

What you will find here

Stories. New pieces in Architecture, Art, Automobiles, Entertainment, Food & Drink, Gardening and Lifestyle, with restoration advice under Contractors.

The Designers Encyclopedia.Short entries on 32 architects and designers, from Cliff May and Richard Neutra to Hans Wegner and Isamu Noguchi.

Real estate.A guide to where mid-century homes are sold and rented in California.

The Market.A place to buy and sell furniture, collectibles, cars, homes and services. You can list an item or a service yourself.

The Photo Identifier.Upload a photo of a house, a chair or a lamp and get a read on its style, its era and its likely designer.

The rest. A calendar of tours, festivals and sales, a page of classic cocktail recipes, and a list of interesting links to things worth reading, watching and buying on other sites.

Who we are

The site is published in Palm Springs, California, by Corey Chambers and John Weeks.

Max is our representative on the site. He is an AI, not a person. You can ask him a question about houses, furniture or design on the front page. He can be wrong, so check anything important.

How we work

We write from published sources and from what we can see for ourselves, and we say where a claim comes from. When we could not confirm something, we say that too. If we got something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

Readers send us photographs through Submit a Photo, and we run them with credit. Email addresses sent to us are kept private. The one exception is a seller who chooses to show an address on a Market listing.
